Summary/Abstract: The Bible is the ancient and dominant book of world culture. As a canonized collection of ancient Jewish texts (the Old Testament), it is supplemented by the writings of the New Testament. The Bible has become not only the theological treasure of Christianity, but also the spiritual and cultural treasure of the whole world. The position of the Bible in the context of European spiritual development can be seen from several perspectives. To assess the Slovak spiritual back-ground, it is therefore important to perceptively observe the influences and spiritual attitudes from European nations and to observe in this context the Bible translations, which clearly include the translation of the Camaldolese Bible. This paper presents the linguistic and cultural background of the publication of this unique first comprehensive Slovak text of the Bible.
