Summary/Abstract: Françoise Thom's Putin and Putinism shows us the workings of a regime that has been built up over time, but whose intentions became clearer with the invasion of Ukraine. What Putinist Russia is doing today has much more complex explanations than Putin's presence in power. An enriched and vindictive post-communist elite in a society in which the alternative and the possibility of contestation have been eliminated are what ensure a certain coherence and strength to Putinism, to this new ideological construct in which communist, fascist and traditionalist projections are interwoven. All these are engaged in a new 'holy war' in which the great enemy is Westernism. Reading the French author's work, we can identify the sources and aims of the current disinformation campaigns and the new sovereigntist and anti-European trends in Romania.
