Summary/Abstract: The paper gives a brief survey of consequences of economic recession on the labour market, focusing on men and women. The main purpose of the study was to recognize the different impact of economic recession on male and female workers and determine the cause of this difference. The paper takes a close look at the gender impact of the crisis, thus demonstrating that a male workforce was more affected by the adverse effects of economic downturn. The results of the analysis of the labour market indicators provide picture of the current role of women in the work force and professions in comparison with men.
