Summary/Abstract: The annual international festival Sofia Music Weeks was established in 1970 with a focus on the performing arts. Gradually it has expanded its thematic scope, enriching its palette with new names and titles. In the different periods of its existence, the concept of its programming changed for a number of reasons. The text highlights some of the most important metamorphoses in the festival model. In recent decades, the Weeks have increasingly been billed as a festival of repertoire, not just of “stars”, which explains the large number of premieres of specially commissioned new opuses, as well as works from different eras that are unfamiliar to Bulgarian audiences.
