Summary/Abstract: In the present study, the category “sound portals” refers to a diverse set of song and/or instrumental examples that are associated with folk music. The interaction between specific “sound portals” and the students who perceive the sound messages emitted by them provokes various associations and leads to the emergence of specific meanings in the course of creative educational practice. The text examines various student associations related to a specific folk song (“Karadja duma Rusanki”, performed by Nedyalka Keranova), which vary depending on the different ways and circumstances of its perception. The text is structured in two parts: the first presents the associative reactions of the students who participated in the study; in the second, a way to make sense of these reactions is sought.
