“Scout Troop, Attention!” Power and Leadership in the Comic Series “Tytus, Romek, and A’tomek” by Henryk Jerzy Chmielewski

Summary/Abstract: The article examines the issue of power as an essential category displayed in “Tytus, Romek, and A’Tomek” the comic book series by H.J. Chmielewski. The relationships of power and leadership are reproduced in the micro-group consisting of the three main characters of the story, which are bonded by friendship: they form the scout group functioning at the elementary school. The stability of this group is maintained by the institutional framework in which the boys function. A’Tomek plays a privileged role in this context: he is a group leader, holds the authority position, and is the elite representative. In analytical terms, the idea of power is applied in neo-Weberian (transformational) and post-structuralist (disciplinary) concepts.
