Summary/Abstract: The article investigates the subject of the history of forensics through the prism of the concept put forward by the Austrian professor Hans Gross regarding forensics as a science and discipline. The author analyzes the evolution of the desideratum that governed the periods of formation and development of criminology as an independent science. It is mentioned that some knowledge existed before the advent of forensics; others were formed as a result of the development of substantive law.The author emphasizes that the forensic knowledge system is a complex one, which involves a diversity of general, particular and special knowledge, which requires the performance of all actions that lead to the discovery of the illegal act.
