Summary/Abstract: The article discusses understanding of the concept of project governance based on a systematic literature review. Its objectives are to identify current research fields and to indicate new research directions. Project governance is the management construct poorly recognizable among practitioners. Results of the systematic literature review highlight that a universally acceptable definition of project governance or its methodological framework are being sought. The paper presents that three fields of studies related to project governance are recognized: correlation with project management, utilization of management theories, exploration of features constituting project governance (e.g. leadership, trust, ethics, strategy, control, performance, contract). Comparing the obtained results with other similar studies, two additional research areas were identified: project governance as control-support system, governance of project procurement.
