Summary/Abstract: Henryk Lesiński is one of the most prominent Polish scholars of Western Pomerania and one of the founding fathers of the historical community in Szczecin. Like most historians of the first generation of researchers, he arrived in Szczecin in the 1950s after graduating from the University of Poznań, and he developed his academic career there. He held leading positions in many scientific institutions in Western Pomerania, including the Provincial State Archive in Szczecin, the Szczecin Branch of the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Szczecin Branch of the Polish Historical Society, and the Higher Pedagogical School. Until his death, he was an authentic and widely respected leader in the community. He made a significant impact on Polish historiography of Western Pomerania and became an unquestioned specialist in the history of cities, maritime navigation, and maritime trade in the medieval and modern eras.
