Business fluctuations on Polish insurance market in 2008

Summary/Abstract: In the paper the tendency of fluctuations prevailing in subsequent quarters of 2008 on the domestic market of insurance services, both in general terms and split by lines of busi- ness (life, non-life) and by insurers' size (large, small), has been assessed in the opinion of managers representing insurance companies.These assessments have been based on the results of four quarterly studies concerning business situation on the Polish insurance market carried out using business situation test method by the Institute of Marketing Studies of the University of Economics in Poznań in April, July and October 2008 and in January 2009.The subject of the analyses presented in the article are the direction and intensity of fluc- tuations in respect of the number of clients, number of clients served, number of cancelled insurance agreements, number of agreements concluded, value of premium collected, num- ber of claims reported, value of indemnities and benefits paid, loss ratio, and insurers; finan- cial standing. These analyses have been summarized by discussing the fluctuations of syn- thetic business situation ratio PIKU, as compared to its value reported in former years.
