Summary/Abstract: The Orthodox Church music from Banat, colloquially known as "Bănățeană" or "Lugojană" is part of a wider Orthodox musical genre, named by the new researches in the field of romanian religious music as "The church music from Serbia and western Romania". The present study proposes a general presentation of the origins, history, geographical spread respectively of the sub-variants of this musical genre present on the territory of the Romanian Banat, as well as a succinct highlighting of the ways in which the Romanian choral creation of the 20th century took and processed musical themes from it.
