Summary/Abstract: The article examines the nature of learning journals and the possibilities they provide in the context of foreign language learning as a means of developing learners' metacognitive skills and managing the individual learning process more effectively. Different types and formats of learning journals are presented, as well as the ways in which they can be used in foreign language learning in general and the acquisition of the particular language skills. The factors that might influence learners' motivation to use learning journals in the foreign language learning process are also considered.
