Summary/Abstract: The Constitution of the Republic of Poland granted local governments (LGs) at all levels the right to cooperate with local and regional communities from other states. The article provides a comparative analysis of the participation of Polish cities in spatially dispersed transnational networks, i.e. multilateral associations and unions. The situation as of December 2021 is compared with that from 20 years before (February 2002). The analysis focuses on individual (direct) membership and it is based on announcements of the minister responsible for public administration. The characteristics of the networks involving Polish cities are examined, considering such criteria as territorial coverage, size, nature of members, level of openness, and the subject of activity.
