Summary/Abstract: In the Polish Army the principal organizer of the election that would create the first Sejm of the Polish People’s Republic (Polska Rzeczpospolita Ludowa, PRL), which took place on 26 October 1952, was the Main Political Directorate of the Polish Army, to which units of the Internal Security Corps were also subordinated. The election campaign and the subsequent voting in military units followed the same scenario as in civilian life. 519 district electoral commissions were established, consisting of 2,888 members. In the army, 99,9% of eligible voters went to the polls, of which 99,97% voted for the National Unity Front (Front Narodowy, FN). During the election campaign, the political and military apparatus was supported by 4,674 uniformed agitators. Also, approximately 20,000 military personnel were engaged in spreading propaganda and causing political agitation outside of their barracks. They participated in establishing the Municipal Electoral Committees of the FN, and then conducted widespread subversion within society as part of the so-called action of presenting papers.
