Summary/Abstract: The University of Lithuania opened in Kaunas in 1922 sought to create a suitable environment for the development of science and studies that had to be conducted in the Lithuanian language. Historical studies of the development of the university state that it was an advanced multicultural institution of higher education. A considerable number of professors from abroad worked at the Faculty of Medicine from the very beginning. The administration of the faculty tried to create a strong scientific and study base and hoped that the newly elected heads of departments would be able to ensure the high level of medical studies and scientific research. However, when examining more closely the development of the Faculty of Medicine and the activities of professors who came from abroad in Kaunas, it is noticeable that they faced considerable challenges, the hostility of some social groups or individuals, all of which had an important impact on the results of their work. The aim of the work is to highlight the tensions and psychological difficulties that occurred in the work environment of foreign professors, to observe their solution methods and results, and to evaluate the significance of these scientists for the development of Lithuanian higher medical science.
