Summary/Abstract: The Polish Educational Society in Lviv was established in 1882 on the initiative of Józef Ignacy Kraszewski and was one of the most important Galician publishing foundations focused on educating the plebeian classes . Wiktor Czermak (1863–1913), a histo- rian and researcher of the history of Poland in the 17th century, educated at the University of Lviv and associated with the Academy of Learning in Krakow and Jagiellonian Uni- versity, cooperated with the society . Among several studies intended for the Polish Educational Society, the anniversary work on the Battle of Grunwald presented the highest level, in which there was a belief that Grunwald contributed to the strengthening of the Polish-Lithuanian union and brought another great victory over the Teutonic Knights in the 15th century . The scholar, sympathizing with the views of the Krakow historical school, and then the national democracy, put achievements of outstanding leaders to the fore . He resorted to various ways of depicting the events of the past . Long cooperation with the society was the result of conviction about the role of popularizing knowledge in developing the historical culture of the society . The student remained faithful to the belief instilled by Ksawery Liske until the end of his life . His works confirm the high position of history and historians in the Polish society at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries .
