Simon Askenazy’s school in the memoirs of Antoni Plutyński

Summary/Abstract: The memoirs of lawyer, economist and entrepreneur Antoni Plutyński, who listened to lectures and developed academic skills during the seminarium privatissimumof Szymon Askenazy, provide important information on the didactic activity of the out-standing historian from Lviv . His intelligence, broad knowledge, literary talent and ability to draw attention attracted ambitious students for whom the idea of history referring to life seemed alluring . Askenazy, striving primarily for the academic development of young people, did not refuse to help a group of politically active students with national views . In this kind of commitment, he sought to achieve his goal to prepare the elite for the reborn Polish state .
