Summary/Abstract: The paper analyses the Russian and Serbian conjunction a, namely, some of the semantic and pragmatic features of this conjunction in the two languages under consideration. The article singles out and describes three separate meanings of the conjunction a: a of dissonance, a of differentiation and a of adjunction.
