Summary/Abstract: Тhe article reveals the characteristics of the Danube Day European initiative for protection and cooperation for sustainable management of one of the most important river systems in Europe. Day celebration is a place and platform for civil actions aimed at sustainability and solidarity in terms of the Danube basin, for identification of the social, economic and ecological effects of river protection, as well as for sharing events representing the cultural diversity of people along the Danube River. Further on, the paper investigates and analyzes educational, communication, cultural and event activities, carried out by Balkan countries. It also presents available educational resources on the Danube River.
