Summary/Abstract: The First World War was one of the greatest catastrophes in human history. Spanning from 1914 to 1918, this war had a profound impact on every corner of the world, from Europe to the Middle East, from Africa to Asia, and even to America. The use of tanks, airplanes, and chemical weapons in this war left cities and countries in ruins, claiming the lives of millions of people. The Ottoman Empire, already grappling with significant political and economic challenges, was drawn into this war during a tumultuous period. Engaging on multiple fronts, the Ottoman Empire struggled to balance its increasing demands with limited resources, pushing it to the brink of an economic collapse. This war also besieged Ottoman cities, including the important city of Bursa. Indeed, Bursa, a significant city within the Ottoman Empire, experienced a challenging period as it felt the direct and indirect effects of the war. As the war dragged on, economic problems emerged, negatively impacting businesses and factories. Commodity prices skyrocketed, forcing people to contend with difficult economic conditions just to sustain their livelihoods. This study is based on the data from the reports of Vahid Bey, the Director of Economics in Bursa, for the years 1916 and 1917. It aims to assess the agricultural structure and trade practices in the city during that period. Additionally, it seeks to elucidate the impact of the war on the local economy. The research utilizes qualitative research methods, specifically content analysis, drawing upon Ottoman archival documents and existing literature in the field.
