Summary/Abstract: The authors of Cafeduweb online magazine take us on a virtual journey along the streets of Paris – from the Grands Boulevards to Monmartre, along the Champs-Elysees to Montparnasse and st. Germain-des-Près in the footsteps of literary giants and artists who frequented the cafés, bars and hotels on the two banks of the River seine, and either wrote, read aloud manuscripts or held heated discussions about literature, art and politics. The sites have been listed by arrondissement, and the text gives a feel of the phenomenon of the Parisian literary cafes, and their mundane atmosphere harbouring French and foreign writers and artists, such as Honoré de Balzac, Marcel Proust, James Joyce, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir to name but a few.
