Crimes against the Person under the Common Law of the Balkan Nations

Summary/Abstract: The common law of the Balkan peoples has been applied since before the establishment of the states. Some of the provisions of common law are included in the state legislation of individual Balkan countries. It became an important regulator of their social and public relations, especially in the years when the Balkan peoples were under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. Common law is a complete legal system, within which the most important branches of law are located, which govern family, civil, criminal, and procedural law. The common law of the Balkan peoples, particularly the provisions related to crimes against the person, have developed and continuously interacted with each other. In the Balkans, common law provides for severe punishments for crimes such as murder, bodily injury, insult, defamation, kidnapping, rape, etc.
