Summary/Abstract: Mediation is an out-of-court dispute resolution method that could also be used in pending court proceedings. Until recently, Bulgaria provided for the possibility of referral to mediation by the courts, but with the newly introduced amendments, judicial mediation shall become mandatory in certain cases as of 1 July 2024. This determines the undeniable relevance of the issue. This work discusses the new provisions in legislation, adopted in relation to mandatory court mediation. It also analyzes the current provisions introducing mandatory judicial mediation, the peculiarities of the process in such a referral, and the best practices of other countries. Based on the analysis, conclusions and generalizations are drawn.
