ЗАБРАВЕНИЯТ РОМАН „ПАРИЖ ПРЕЗ ХХ ВЕК“ НА ЖУЛ ВЕРН
JULES VERNE'S FORGOTTEN NOVEL “PARIS IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY”

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the literary phenomenon "book from the drawer" – it was as late as 2023 that a forgotten novel by Jules Verne, written in 1863, whose storyline resembles a commercial mystification, became available to the Bulgarian public. Whether this is so is not as important as the curious futuristic prophecies about the future of technology, the development of social relations, culture, reading and books in the context of our post-human future. Jules Verne turns out to be a brave prophet-visionary who foresaw the invention of the photocopier, television, computer, tiny houses, the urbanization of city spaces, etc. He also predicted the future of culture, science and education – heralding lists of banned and forgotten books and authors. These dark prophecies also concern the future of the world's popular languages, as well as the collapse of Eurocentrism.
