Summary/Abstract: In the article we propose, we intend to refer to the way of making the traditional costumes in the Codru Area, but an analysis of its terminology. The region we are referring to is located northwest of the country, on either side of the Făget forest (that is also called Codru’s peak), comprising the north of Sălaj county, the SW of Maramures county and the SE of Satu Mare county. The delimitation is an ethnographic one. This research aims to create an image of the life, culture and the languages of these lands; a life in which clothing, traditions and language are defining features for shaping the personalities of these people. Most of them are elderly people, because today very few young people find their purpose in rural life. However, those born here always return to the codrenian villages of their childhood to rediscover their identity. Following a complex field research process, in which we followed the characteristics of this dialect, we decided to offer more attention to the terminology of the traditional clothing of this area, a very important element in preserving the national identity. The traditional Romanian costume is different depending on the ethnographic area or region it refers to, but each one has something spectacular and carries a story, historical and cultural explanations. The popular codrenian costume was made by women, by hand, all its components being made at home. Even the cloth was woven during the war, made of hemp or linen, a process in which the codren took part, from their cultivation to obtaining the fabrics. The codrenians keep these ancestral vestments with sanctity, wear them with pride at cultural events and talk about them as a treasure handed down from generation to generation.
