Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the problems of professional training of history teachers for Latvian primary and secondary schools in 1919–1941. Records of the Schoolteachers’ Censoring Commission provide data about history teachers’ educational level and their professional skills. Information provided by documentary records proves that in 1941 in Latvian schools there were 280 history teachers (195 had higher education). Most of them possessed a status of certified teachers; that testifies to their professional skills. Having compared the data about schoolteachers at the beginning of the period under discussion with the data of 1940, the author comes to the conclusion that the number of teachers with higher education increased. However, available information does not provide an answer to the question whether this number of schoolteachers met demands of Latvian secondary schools.
