Impact Of Consolidation Processes On The Efficiency Of Banking

Summary/Abstract: The negative impact of the global financial crisis has led to an increase in various restructurings in the banking sector, both globally and in Europe. These restructurings are in the face of consolidation processes. As more and more financial products and services are offered outside the traditional banking sector, financial technologies and shadow banks are putting pressure on banking institutions to take the step of consolidation. The main advantages that consolidation provides are growth, synergy, restriction of competition and efficiency. The main goal of this study is to monitor banking efficiency before and after the consolidation process in the Bulgarian banking sector and to conclude whether greater efficiency is achieved after mergers and acquisitions or not.
