Summary/Abstract: Sociological criticism is the most critical research method that significantly contributes to literary sociology and offers an opportunity to address literary works in a sociological context. Assuming that an author, reader, and work are the outputs of social conditions, sociological criticism argues that a sociological analysis should be performed by considering social life. The main subject of sociological criticism is to reveal which subject the text focuses on and what kind of environment the literary work is the output of, starting from the discipline of sociology, which is its main element. Since the author is a member of the society, the text produced by her/him is in this sense the product of that social environment. Sociological criticism analyzes exactly this environment that created the work. The “physician’s prose writings,” which began to arise in 21st-century Russian literature, is one of the most prominent literary genres with profound material for sociological analysis. In this literary genre, physician authors convey their professional experiences through literary works. The Clinic S… is one of those works written by physician-author Andrey Shlyahov, who mentioned the troubles in the modern Russian healthcare system strikingly. First, this study focused on the characteristics of physician prose that has become a common topic of interest and research in contemporary Russian literature and then analyzed the Clinic S… following the principles of sociological literary criticism. In this study, in which the critical method, a main sociological, literary criticism method, was adopted, citations were made with an aim to show the author’s implicit criticism through explicit depictions in his works. Accordingly, a critical and realistic description of being a physician, nurses, patients, and the failures of the Russian health care system was made. By delving into the depths of Russian society, the dark side of Russian medical world was portrayed from the eyes of an author.
