Summary/Abstract: Phenomenology is a science of phenomena, and the phenomenon itself is at its center. This branch of science, which focuses on appearance, refers to what appears to the consciousness rather than what the eye sees. For this reason, phenomenology, which distinguishes the effect of space on people, comes to the fore as an important approach in architecture. Because space is a powerful element that reflects people in all aspects. Space, which is an important tool used to reveal the emotional worlds of the heroes in literature, has been the subject of our study by being associated with the phenomenological approach. As a matter of fact, Petersburg and Istanbul, the two big cities that come to the fore in Mikhail Bulgakov’s On the Run: A Play in Eight Dreams, which we discussed in our study, have an important place in terms of mirroring the mental states of the play’s heroes. Despite going through difficult historical processes, two cities, one escaped and the other in a sheltering position, shed light on the immigrant lives of the White Russians in detail. Petersburg and Istanbul, which bring to light the spiritual tragedies of the Russian community, each of which is a historical reflection of the heroes of the work, confronts the reader in two different phenomenological roles as the main place and background of the events. In this study, it will be tried to describe the image of the city, which witnesses the internal and external transformations of the heroes in Mihail Bulgakov’s On the Run: A Play in Eight Dreams, in the imagination of the White Russians in the phenomenological context. In the study, which examines the effects of the characters of the two cities, which reflect a similar physiological picture due to the difficult struggles in their lands, the way the heroes interpret what they see will be revealed by making use of the image of the city as a place.
