Summary/Abstract: Adoption is an institution that has existed since ancient times. Although its characteristics have changed in different societies, in different geographies and over time, adoption has generally preserved its existence. A similar situation is observed in Turkish culture in terms of the institution of adoption. Although adoption, which has been widely accepted in Turkish culture since the ancient Turkish communities, has changed over time, it has always maintained its existence and today it has gained a modern structure based on the protection of the child. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the change of the institution of adoption in Turkish culture over time with its legal aspect as a whole. In this context, firstly, the institution of adoption in the pre-Islamic Turkish states is discussed, and then the institution of adoption in the post-Islamic and Ottoman Empire and the institution of adoption in Turkey are given respectively
