THE COIN OF STEFAN VUKCIC KOSACA, HERZOG OF ST. SAVA

Summary/Abstract: On this occasion a remarkable Serbian medieval coin specimen, and completely new coin type, is presented for the first time, considering that there was no mention of it in previous works. According to stylistic, metrological, paleographic and heraldic indicators, we may associate this silver coin to Stefan Vukčić Kosača, herzog of St. Sava from 1448 to 1466 and lord of the considerable land bordering the estates of Serbian and Bosnian rulers as well as those of Dubrovnik and Venice. The coin of herzog Stefan Vukčić, considering the political and economic circumstances of his time, could be among the latest, if not the last issue in Serbian medieval coinage.
