Summary/Abstract: An attempt to extract from Cyprian Norwid’s work a group of texts, drawings and mixed forms that deal with a subject of caricatures of Polish noblemen, who have some Chinese traits and who treat arts nonchalantly. Looking for the sources of this Chinese-Sarmatian mixture, the author confronts previous interpretations (Chlebowska, Dambek, Jeżewski) with a broader press and iconographical context in order to throw some new light on Norwid’s contacts with the Chinese culture.
