Summary/Abstract: This article introduces the subject of the topic of bread as discussed in selected non-fiction books for children. The presentation of the lexicon (especially that concerning the cultivation of grain and the production of bread) is completed by a critical analysis of the Polish translation of one of these books, namely, Wiem co jem! Chlebek i bułeczki (Je sais ce que je mange: Le pain) the aim of which is to show the terminological, stylistic, cultural and ideological difficulties of such a translation, and then to present and analyse the various ways of translating them.
