Summary/Abstract: In the 19th century Bulgarian writers became increasingly interested in the nature of the language in which education would be conducted in future schools and in which literature would be created. Petar Beron‘s „Fish Primer“ marks the beginning of a new stage in the formation of the new Bulgarian literary language, as he sets out on a completely new path from previous writers. The primer, which can be dated and as one of the first readings for children, is distinguished by modernity and encyclopedicity, which were not typical in Bulgaria until that time.
