Summary/Abstract: The article describes the complex task of returning tens of thousands of men after the Great War as the conflict carried them far away from their homes. Broken infrastructure on the one hand and the post-war chaos on the other that prevailed many areas where or from where the soldiers were returning additionally complicated the task. Furthermore, the movement of these masses posed a threat to the civilians and state administration of the states where the soldiers were or which they crossed because there were also criminals among them as well as persons whose morals were degraded due to the war experience. The article highlights issues associated with the POWs – the members of the newly established Czechoslovak Republic – from the former Austro-Hungarian Army returning from Russia ruled by the tsar and from the local legions.
