Building Intercultural Competence in Early Childhood Education

Summary/Abstract: Some of the characteristics of nowaday's society are: the globalization, the disappearance of physical borders, the migration and mobility of people. We are witnessing social movements that generate, on the one hand, the need to adopt the cultural values of others, on the other hand, the need to re-affirm the national identity. Education must assume an active role in promoting the intercultural dimensions, through activities adapted to the age particularities of the learners. This study argues the need for intercultural education in early education, the intended goals and the concrete ways by which they can be achieved.
