Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to analyse four selected essays written by Polish authors who describe Latin lessons. Miciński, Krawczuk, Herbert and Axer use the eclectic form of the essay for several purposes. The writers not only show their individual attitudes to Latin and ancient culture, but also emphasise the role and importance of the language of the Romans in Polish and European history, literature and culture.
