Summary/Abstract: The article presents the interpretation and translation of the elegy Amores II 18 by Ovid. The poet describes his hesitation in the choice of the literary path and genre best suited to his talent and interests. He also encourages his friend, the poet Pompey Macer, to follow his example in abandoning epic themes and starting to write elegiac poetry.
