Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the structure of the Latin tragedy Julius Caesar by Caspar Brülovius, staged in 1616 at the theatre of the Academy of Strasbourg. The author, bearing in mind the different types of audience, created a play in which Acts II and III constitute a proper drama about Julius Caesar, reminiscent of ancient tragedies (homogeneous action centred around one hero). The remaining acts serve didactic purposes and present (especially Acts IV and V) a lot of loosely connected scenes-episodes, stretched in time and space, spectacular, and therefore eagerly watched by the viewers of the seventeenth-century theatre.
