Summary/Abstract: The text touches upon some socio-economic problems of education, illustrated with selected indicators. Apart from the introduction, which presents components of HDI, the paper is divided into two main parts. The first one discusses expenditure on education in the context of student achievements and social development. The second presents new education contexts such as education in the context of COVID-19, inclusive education and desirable changes in the education structure.
