Summary/Abstract: The present study deals with an unpublished manuscript of Elie Bufnea, one of the Romanian volunteers who was part of the Legion formed in Siberia at the end of the First World War. The unpublished pages written by him refer to an unknown subject: who and what determined the generous donations of the Bessarabian boyar Vasile Stroescu to Romanian schools and churches in Transylvania in 1910-1914. According to Elie Bufnea, who grew up in the Goga family and was often in the Cosma family home, the one who told Vasile Stroescu about the cultural and social needs of the Romanians in Transylvania was Minerva Cosma, the middle daughter of the lawyer Partenie Cosma, director of the "Albina" Bank in Sibiu. Minerva was in Davos, Switzerland, where her mother had sent her in an attempt to cure her of a love she considered inappropriate. Yet Minerva does not cure in the foreign country, but meets Vasile Stroescu, with whom her father and her younger sister's husband, Octavian Goga, will form a close friendship. His generous donations convince Minerva that she has fulfilled the mission for which she was raised by her family - to be a good Romanian - and despite her parents' opposition she marries the German officer Schaffer, with whom she will live her entire life.
