Summary/Abstract: The article proposes a discursive analysis of the meanings actualised by the noun “solitude” in French-language hagiographic narratives. This noun is borrowed from the common vocabulary of French in order to express rather spiritual meanings in religious, Christian language, also illustrated by hagiographic narratives written or translated into French. The analysis is based on a corpus consisting of the Orthodox Synaxarium used in the Saint-Antoine-le-Grand Monastery (from France), which represents an abridged version of Synaxarium. Lives of the saints of the Orthodox Church by Father Hieromonk Macaire de Simonos Petra, the most complete French Synaxarium, well known in French and French-speaking Orthodox circles.
