The French translations of the Scripture and the Bible reading as a form of prayer

Summary/Abstract: The article proposes a reflection on the way the French Orthodox practice the reading of the biblical text as a form of prayer. In traditional Orthodox cultures, such reading is done using Christian-Orthodox confessional translations, authorised and validated by the Church in this regard. Since in France there is no such translation of the sacred text, the French Orthodox practice this kind of reading using versions that are recommended by the spiritual fathers. The article proposes a definition of the notion of confessional biblical translation and presents a brief summary of the main Scripture translations of this type that exist in the area of French language and culture.
