Summary/Abstract: The article aims to describe the changes in the Polish historical and political imaginarium brought about by Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The framing analysis covers the press discourse from the first weeks of war (from 24 February to the end of March 2022), its corpus comprising original articles containing a detailed analysis of the situation, thoughts on the meaning of what was happening, and references to history, images of the past or historical content (events and figures). A feature of the said articles was a doubly historicised narrative: history both as the subject of the story, and as the story itself, generating the meaning of what is experienced together. As a result of the analysis the article describes ways of invoking the past from an internal (Poland-centric) and external (geopolitical) perspective, along with two basic frames or ways of capturing the war as a historical fact: a diachronic frame, placing the event in the context of a broader historical narrative of the relations between the Russian empire and the West, and a synchronous frame, treating the event as a moment in the universal battle between good and evil.
