Summary/Abstract: The article explores the geographic, stylistic and pragmatic evolution of the lexical unit firana (‘curtain’) from a diachronic perspective, using data from dictionaries, digital libraries and corpora of the Polish language. The author points out that this word is an example of derivation called “truncation”, and presents it as a dialect, regional (Poznań origin) and augmentative word. The researcher draws attention to the use of the word in literature and commercial texts. She comes to the conclusion that the derivative in question essentially does not differ in meaning from the word-formation basis, but it responds to the different needs of Polish speakers.
