Summary/Abstract: The article begins with a description of the Dictionary of Anglicisms edited by Manfred Görlach (2001/2005), which, so far, is the only cross-linguistic dictionary of Anglicisms that have been attested in sixteen European languages. The main focus of the article is the presentation of the main objectives of the GLAD (Global Anglicism Database) international project, which is meant to be a continuation of Görlach’s lexicon. One other aim of the study is to point out the differences in the outcomes of language contact between English and European (mainly Polish) and non-European languages, which are illustrated with preliminary language data from Cantonese and Japanese collected for the GLAD database.
