Summary/Abstract: The following publication presents current definitions of workaholism and determines the basic determinants of this phenomenon in the teaching profession related to the specificity of his profession. However, its main goal is to present the results of the author’s own research on teachers’ self-awareness about the risk of work addiction in connection with the changing role of the educator in a modern school. The aim of the following research was to analyze the self-awareness of teachers regarding their possible addiction to work. This issue is currently extremely topical. The change in the conditions and forms of teachers’ work related to remote teaching, isolation, influx of immigrants, and thus – increased workload, could affect the degree of risk of addiction to it. It therefore seemed reasonable to attempt to investigate the phenomenon and teachers’ awareness of it. The secondary purpose of the following research was to search for methods of addiction prevention. The need to implement such measures in the professional environment of teachers indicates the need to re-define the concepts related to work addiction (especially in the eyes of the public and the mass media) and to update the methods of counteracting the effects of addiction, because the existing concepts and definitions may be out of date in a modern, digital teachers’ working environment.
