Summary/Abstract: Through the lens of the science of language, the author analyzes the discourse and linguistic informativeness of the campaign 'Let’s preserve the Serbian language’. This linguistic campaign was organized in 2016 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the Serbian entity of Republika Srpska, by the University Library of Republika Srpska and under the patronage of several public institutions from the Republic of Serbia. Having defined the main messages of the campaign, such as the notion of literacy, the idea of correct and incorrect language, the definition of linguistic endangerment, and the understanding of the Serbian standard language in the post-Yugoslav space, the author concludes that the campaign wa based on a series of widespread myths, that were debunked by the science of language. Therefore, by building on such misconceptions, the campaign promoted and raised intolerance among speakers.
