Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is a comparative analysis of the results of research on human capital in the European Union achieved by two methods: soft modelling and TOP-SIS. Soft modelling enables the study of relationships among unobserved variables (latent variables) and the estimation of values of these variables. The estimated values can be used to a linear ordering of the objects. TOPSIS method involves calculating the distance of each object from a positive ideal solution and a negative ideal solution and then a linear ordering of the objects. The studies used statistics for the year 2010 for the 27 countries of the Euro-pean Union.
