Summary/Abstract: The Archdiocesan Archives in Wrocław and other cultural institutions of the archdiocese boast a wealth of historical sources. These resources have been collected essentially since the first centuries of the Wroclaw Bishopric. One of the most outstanding directors of the institutions in question was undoubtedly Bishop Wincenty Urban, who served as director of the Archdiocesan Archives, the Chapter Library and the Archdiocesan Museum in Wrocław from 1946 to 1983. The main task he undertook as head of these institutions was to rebuild them after their destruction during World War II. The archival, library and museum aids still operating today were also developed by Bishop W. Urban. In his research, he focused on compiling the documentation gathered at the Archdiocesan Archives in Wrocław and the history of the Catholic Church in Lower Silesia. He is the author of over 500 scientific publications. Urban was born in 1911 in Grodzisk Dolny near Przeworsk. He was ordained priest on 28 June 1936 in Lviv. In 1960, he received the episcopal sacrament, and from 1974 to 1976, as chapter vicar, he was the head of the Church of Wrocław. He died on 13 December 1983 in Wrocław.
